Active holidays in Italy

A paradise for hikers, cyclists and lovers of Italian culture
Cyclists riding along a field of poppies

Italy has always been one of the most popular destinations in the world. Art, culture, landscapes, sunshine, and cuisine combine to create an unforgettable blend. With its contrasting landscapes, Italy is also a true paradise for cyclists, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

In addition to the countless well-known cultural and scenic tourist magnets, there are many undiscovered places to find by bike or on foot. You can hike in the hills of South Tyrol or the mountains above the Valle d’Aosta. You can also ride along the Alpe Adria Cycle Path or through the villages dotted around Tuscany. Vibrant cities can be explored by bicycle.

There is a side of Italy that will appeal to almost every individual and the holiday routes allow you to enjoy delicious Italian foods, see ancient ruins and make the most of Italy's natural beauty.

Focus on Italy

Discover some of Italy's most famous, picturesque and impressive regions for cycling and walking holidays.

Historic routes and cities

Built along Emperor Claudius’ former connection from the Danube to the Adriatic, the Via Claudia Augusta is today a popular walking and cycling route that follows in the footsteps of the Romans. The route goes from Reschen to the Kaltersee.

The regions of Piedmont and Tuscany offer a more traditional view of Italy. Tall cypress trees, extensive vineyards, and historic cities combine to create memorable cycling holidays. The beautiful cities of Turin, Pisa, Florence, and Venice are also great places to start your next active holiday before heading off into more rural surroundings.

Places to capture the imagination

Italy has many wonders and there are some places that instantly capture the imagination. On our active holidays in Italy, several famous cities such as Florence, Rome, Pisa, and Venice are included as part of the overall tour itinerary and can be explored quite easily by bike.

Alternatively, you can explore the South Tyrol valley region on the easternmost tip of Switzerland which is located exclusively in the Alps. The valley is flanked by numerous mountain peaks with the 3,905-metre-high Ortler being the highest and most dramatic. Fruit growing and wine productions thrive in the central South Tyrol valley due to its many sunny days. The South Tyrol was once an essential Roman cultural and trade route.
