Itinerary

It's worth exploring the Old Town and visiting its historic landmarks and delightful street cafes. You may also want to consider adding a visit to the royal castles to your itinerary when you arrive.

At the thundering Lech Falls, you cross the Lech Gorge and hike along the Alpenrosenweg to the Alpsee. From this viewpoint, you have the best view of Neuschwanstein. Continue past the rock faces to Sternschanze, where you cross the border into Tyrol and arrive in Pflach. Optionally, you can continue through the bird sanctuary, up to the observation tower in the Lech floodplains, and then proceed to Reutte and Ehrwald by train.

A wonderful alpine tour awaits you: on the Alte-Mühl-Steig, you'll leave the valley and take a gondola ride to Ehrwalder Alm. Follow the 'Koatigen Weg' to Igelsee, where the highest rocky peaks are beautifully reflected. Enjoy a leisurely hike through the Gaistal, passing numerous alpine pastures where you can take a break with buttermilk and Kaiserschmarrn (small pieces of pancake dough). As you continue down the valley, you'll reach the Kneipp spa by the rushing Salzbach stream.

Travel along the Way of St. James along the Weidachsee, passing through secluded forests and moorland until you reach the crossing at Buchner Höhe. The view from the Ropferstubm is absolutely fantastic, with the green Inn Valley below the rock faces of the Hohen Munde. After visiting the pilgrimage church in the historic market town of Telfs, continue your journey on a panoramic trail through the Ötztal and Pitztal Alps until you reach Landeck.

Transfer to the Resia Pass and take a cable car to the Mutzkopf, where your tour to the Schwarzsee and Grünsee begins. Ascend steadily to the Dreiländerstein, where the borders of Italy, Austria, and Switzerland converge. The high-altitude trail leads you to the popular Rescheralm, where you'll be tempted by delicious South Tyrolean delicacies. Finally, you'll reach the expansive Lake Resia and hike along its shores to your destination.

Admire the sunken church of Graun during the bus journey to St. Valentin. Snow-covered mountains are beautifully reflected in the Haidersee. Continue your journey along its shores and into the valley, reaching the tranquil village of Burgeis. As you pass through colourful meadows and sunlit mountain slopes, you'll also come across Churburg Castle in Schluderns before taking a train to Silandro.

The Vinschgau Railway will take you to Naturns, where a magnificent panoramic trail leads you along the babbling streams of the Waalweg. Descend through the forest to the Schlundensteinen and then proceed towards Algund. Naturally, a stop at a typical farm inn is also included in the tour. The ultimate highlight is the Tappeiner Promenade: strolling through it feels like walking through a botanical garden until you reach the cathedral in the center of Merano.
