We can all agree that very few countries are as beautiful as Austria! A cycling holiday in Austria is ideal as the country offers so much with breathtaking views of the Alps, smooth cycle paths and picturesque towns to explore on each day of your cycle tour in Austria.

You'll be able to enjoy traditional Austrian foods such as the famous Schnitzel, stop off at incredible thermal spas and get to know the country on wonderful cycle paths such as the internationally famous Danube Cycle Path.

You'll see crystal-clear lakes and dramatic mountains with snow-capped peaks on most tours and combined with Austria's rich cultural history, there will be plenty of opportunity to explore the country in detail along the way.

Cycling holidays along the Danube Cycle Path

The popular Danube Cycle Path winds its way all the way from southern Germany towards the Black Sea, and the Austrian section is the most popular with cyclists snaking their way from Passau in Germany to Vienna every summer. The versatile landscape, excellent cuisine and beautiful cities including several capital cities have been huge attractions for generations. You can cycle from Passau to Vienna along the classic route or opt for the Vienna to Budapest section which passes through Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary.

If you want a more relaxed way of cycling along the Danube, look at our Bike and Boat cycling holidays. During the day, you can cycle next to the river on the Danube Cycle Path and in the evening, you stay on board for meals, accommodation, and socialising. There is no need to pack and unpack every day. In one week, you can sail all the way to Budapest via Vienna and Bratislava before returning to Passau.

Cycling holidays in the Salzkammergut

Beautiful mountain scenery and glittering lakes welcome customers to the beautiful Salzkammergut region. Follow in the footsteps of the emperor and cycle past the stunning views. The 10 Lakes cycle tour has inspired people for over 20 years.

The landscapes, glittering lakes and historic villages on the banks combine to create a very special place. Friendly locals, colourful traditional costumes, hearty Austrian foods, and beautiful cycle paths along the lakes can all be found in the Salzkammergut.

Cycling holidays in Carinthia

Who doesn’t enjoy cycling in the sunshine? Cycling in Austria is a truly wonderful experience when the sun is shining, and Carinthia in Austria is the country’s sunniest region. Cycle through the Drautal or follow the route of the Alpe Adria Cycle Path that passes through southern Austria. Austria's southernmost province is known for open-water swimming and is a popular place for cycling.

Carinthia has some beautiful lakes and mountains to explore. The bonus is that there are excellent cycling paths and routes beside them!

Cycling holidays in the Tyrol

The beautiful Tyrolean region is world-famous for its majestic mountains, but you can do much more than go skiing or hiking here! For cyclists, the Tyrol region has a vast network of cycle paths, routes, and inter-regional options that cater for all abilities. The difficulty of the stages varies from beginner level to very sporty. Even for families, there are dedicated cycling holidays available.

Going on a cycle tour in the Tyrol takes the cyclist into an idyllic dream full of majestic mountains, traditional outfits, lush nature, and warm hospitality for which the Tyroleans are known. More than 900 km of cycle paths link the Zillertal and Kitzbühler Alps together. This is a place for those who value tradition, art, and culture as much as exercise.
