Active holidays in Sweden

Exploring the wilderness in untouched nature
View of Stockholm

Sweden is a country of untouched nature with vast nature reserves and large forests that cover much of the country. The largest river in Scandinavia, the Klarälven, flows into Sweden’s largest lake, Lake Väne. The Stockholm archipelago consists of approximately 24,000 islands with some big enough only for wildflowers whilst others are inhabited.

In addition to the historic capital of Stockholm with its art, culture, history, and music, there is also a lot for children to do here making it an ideal active family holiday destination.

Sweden has incredible natural beauty and inhabitants that enjoy being outdoors to experience the wonderful lakes, rivers and countryside by bike or on foot. The endless summers make cycling or hiking in Sweden a truly special place.

Focus on Sweden

Discover some of Sweden's most famous, picturesque and impressive regions for cycling and walking holidays.

Beyond the capital

Outside of the Stockholm capital region, there are lots of wonderful cycle routes and places to visit. The Kattegattleden from southern Skåne between Helsingborg and Gothenburg was named as Cycling Route of the Year 2018 and the 390 km route runs parallel to Sweden's west coast. This is an ideal cycle route for an e-bike and for those looking to cycle somewhere different.

Skåneleden in southern Sweden is one of the most famous and longest hiking trails. Divided into five stages, you walk through densely wooded forests, along rugged rock formations, past magnificent sandy beaches and of course the well-known rapeseed fields in Skåne. Nature is all around you and the Skåneleden gives you the opportunity to experience this to the fullest.
